Have you been to Osprey Campground on Priest Lake, Idaho. The reservation page says “shoreline sites” available – 10 feet to water. Do they actually border the water? Can you actually have access to the lake directly from your site or is there a steep cliff? I cannot understand why there are so many sites still open still for May, June & July. All campgrounds on Priest Lake are booked solid. Why is this one available?
Thanks for reading Patty ! The sites definitely were not ten feet to the water, more like 30 yards to the water.
When we stayed at Osprey last year in May the lake was pretty full of winter run off, and the water came right up to the bank. It was a little difficult to determine where the water line would be during normal conditions.
The site we stayed which was #13 was really was I felt, the best site of the entire campground. With that said, there really wasn’t a defined beach access. There was a little ledge that dropped onto the shoreline and its not a beach
I would call the Priest River Ranger station and ask why so many are available, perhaps they may be restricting reservations for whatever reason. If you can’t reserve a waterfront campsite at this campground, I would probably look somewhere else. Here is the information to the Priest River Ranger District:
