Last August our family took a trip to Montana. I recalled earlier in the year I saw a program on the outdoor channel about Gem Mountain and decided to add it in our family itinerary.
Gem Mountain is a family owned and operated sapphire mine owned by the Cooney Family for the purpose of entertaining treasure-seeking visitors from around the world. Check out their site !
We spent about $100.00 and found about a total of 20 carat weight cuttable sapphires. I personally found a 3.59 carat stone which I left at Gem Mountain to be heat treated and cut.
We all had so much fun, despite the area forest fires and impending dark rain clouds. We spent hours washing our gravel and finding our gems. I have since then received my found treasure that I left at Gem Mountain to be treated and cut. The finished cut weighed 1.1 carat and was appraised at $600.00. How often can a family make a profit during a vacation ?
The staff there are great. I especially liked Dave the Manager. Dave was extremely helpful. Everyone there that day was so nice. I want to thank Dave, Kevin, Mellonie, and Olivia for all their help and excellant customer service.
